About this Location
Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kenya is located in central Kenya, just south of the equator, 150 km north-northeast of the capital Nairobi. A World Heritage Site, it is described as one of the most striking landscapes in Eastern Africa with its jagged glacier-clad summits, Afro-alpine moorlands and diverse forests.
Activities: Camping, mountain climbing and cave exploration.
Getting Around: Main road access to Mount Kenya is via Nanyuki or Naro Moru, both easily accessed from Nairobi by bus or private transport. Some trekkers and Climbers access the Mountain from the small village of Chogoria. There is an airstrip in Nanyuki, with both scheduled and charter flights available.
