About this Location
At 5,895m, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa and the tallest free-standing dormant volcanic mountain in the world. Mount Kilimanjaro has three volcanic cones, namely, Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. With its snowy peak looming over the savannah, the mountain stands in glorious isolation above the surrounding plains. Mount Kilimanjaro has five main vegetative zones from its lowest to highest point. The whole mountain including the montane forest belt is very rich in endangered species. Kilimanjaro National Park covers an area of 1668 square kilometers in Northern Tanzania near Moshi Town.
Activities: Trekking, day and night hikes on the Shira plateau, trout fishing, visiting the beautiful Chala crater lake on the mountain’s south-eastern slopes.
Getting Around: Kilimanjaro National Park is serviced by local airstrips that cater for light chartered flights and can be accessed by road.
